The Commodore - If you don’t know, now you know
Daniel Cage and Michael Cook are the masterminds behind the newest and only speakeasy in Fountain Square. Dan has always loved traveling with his family and friends; scouring for a speakeasy to cozy up in with a hand crafted cocktail in every city. He had always dreamed of having his own one day- especially knowing that this was something Indy was missing!
Introducing: The Commodore
Dan knew that he had found the spot for The Commodore when he stumbled upon a vacant space in the Fountain Square Theater Building built in 1871. Winding hallways through the building will bring you to an unmarked door; making you think you’re in the wrong place- but you’re not! This is totally intentional, and really gives off a true old school speakeasy feel paying homage to the building itself. When you step inside, it’s like you have gone back in time.
The Commodore was named after Cornelius Vanderbilt, or “The Commodore”. Shipping and railroad tycoon, Cornelius Vanderbilt, was a self-made millionaire who became one of the wealthiest Americas of the 19th century. He also founded Vanderbilt University, where Dan went to college!
The art on the walls have been painted by Mike’s brother, Thomas Cook, a local artist here in Indy. Each piece is for sale- so if you like something, let the bartender know, and it’s yours! Every inch of the space is Instagram worthy.
“We have spirits and experiences here that you can’t find anywhere else in the city.” - Daniel
The bartenders are more like chemists at The Commodore. Dan and Mike have done their due diligence in finding the most passionate mixologists Indy has to offer. Every cocktail we’ve tried has been exceptional and unordinary, never disappointing! It is really important to both Dan and Mike that they invest in their team. Holding team trainings and allowing creativity are key to The Commodore’s success.
Harry Webler, the bar manager at The Commodore, has helped Dan and Mike curate a collection of rare, second to none liquor. If you’re wanting to try something you’ve never tried before, don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone! Let Harry and all the staff at The Commodore take you on adventure to find your new favorite cocktail!
The Commodore is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5pm to 3am!
